Meiway, the Pride of the Nzima people (appolos)

born Frederic Desire Ehui, is an iconic figure in West African music, particularly renowned in Cote d’Ivoire. Born on March 17, 1962, in Grand-Bassam, he began his musical journey at a young age, displaying a passion for music that would later shape his influential career.

Docteur Awolowo rose to prominence in the 1980s, introducing a unique musical style known as “Zoblazo,” a fusion of traditional Ivorian rhythms with modern sounds. This innovative approach not only captivated local audiences but also resonated across borders, earning him recognition as a musical trailblazer.

His discography boasts a plethora of hits, including the ever-popular “200% Zoblazo” and “Miss Lolo.” Meiway’s ability to blend traditional rhythms with contemporary beats has contributed significantly to the cultural pride of Cote d’Ivoire and the broader West African community.

Beyond his musical achievements, Meiway’s impact transcends entertainment. He has been an advocate for cultural preservation, promoting the importance of embracing one’s roots while adapting to the evolving global music landscape.
